6. Attention for Users:
6.1 Pre-treatment:
Pre-treatment of polyolefines (PE/PP) must be performed by Corona-discharge in order to insure the adhesion of the ink to the substrate. Surface tension needs to be at least
42 dynes/cm for PE, at least 52 dynes/cm for PP
6.2 Curing Conditions:
Cure speeds will depend on exposure time or line speed, wattage output, ink deposit, colour, opacity and UV intensity.
UltraKolor can be cured by exposure to UV radiation (wavelength 314 - 400 nm)
All colours of UltraKolor can be cured by the use of medium pressure mercury vapour lamps (at 120 - 160 W/cm). The optimum energy output is 250 - 300 Millijoule/cm2. UV curing is followed by a 12 hour post-cure phase after which the ink film is fully cured and has its final properties.
However, if low radiation intensity, excessive machine speeds or excessive film thickness can have a negative influence on the curing properties and adhesion.
6.3 Thinner:
UV thinner may be added into inks to reduce viscosity. To avoid toning, the addition should only be a few percent (max. addition 1 - 2%)
7. Safety and storage information:
- Storage in a cool place (15-25oC) and out of direct sunlight. Direct or prolonged ink exposure to light sources with UV contents should be avoided. Keep containers closed when not in use
- Avoid contact with skins and eyes. If the ink comes in contact with the skin, promptly wash off with water and soap. If eye contact occurs, immediately wash off with water for 15 minutes and seek medical advice. Wash area has to be effectively ventilated.
- Shelf life: 12 years after date of manufacture when storing the at 15-25oC and in the original packing container. At higher storage temperatures the shelf life will be re-duced.
